We used to play together
You called me your best friend
You said you’d be there for me
Until the very end
What happened to make you leave me?
What made you say goodbye?
Why did you leave me here?
Why can’t you tell me why?
Was it because I chewed your shoes?
Or was it because I pulled on the leash?
Was it because I grew too quickly?
Or was it because I ate the quiche
So now I lie here waiting
For you to come my way
I hope you do come soon
For this is my last day
No one wants a dog
As big and old as me
Do I deserve a home
What I’ve done wrong, I cannot see
So when the lady comes
To take me from my stall
I promise to follow gently
I will not fight at all
And when she puts me on the table
And inserts the cold syringe
I will not even cry
And I will not even cringe
Because then I will be happy
I will be in a better place
The cruel people in this world
I will no longer have to face
But before I go, I must ask
Just one last question…
Why?

Dedicated to all animals who have suffered through pain, abuse and neglect.
When deciding to buy an animal, please think carefully. Ask these questions
* Do i have enough space
* Do i have enough time
* Do i have enough money
Because if you dont ask these questions now, your pet will end up asking "why?"
If you do decide to purchase an animal, why not visit your local shelter. By adopting a shelter animal you will be saving a life.
Remember this poem next time you think about purchasing an animal.
Please remember,
PETS ARE FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS!!

good on you for posting this poem!!! hopefully people will think more carefully when they get their animals.
6 months ago i saved a life by rescuing a puppy from the pound, shes a beautiful little terrier cross. when we got her she had been found wandering the streets and was severly underfed with bruises all over her. They had illegally docked her tail and left her on the street before it had healed. she was 3kgz. shes still the same height and a little underweight at 12kgz. this shows how neglected she was. I cant understand how people can do this to such beautiful animals, Maddi was terrified of people when we first got her, now she is very friendly and learning her house training fast. If anyone would like to see a photo of her just P.M. me, im so proud of her!!
thankyou for posting this poem,
Caiti |

I know its a sad poem and a true cautionary tale to think before you buy, but the quiche line is such a quintessential dog behaviour that I had to laugh. I love dogs but won't have one while I'm renting or while I can't provide company for them while I'm at work - it just isn't fair for such a social pack animal. Thank goodness their isn't a 103 dalmations movie this year! And thank you for a poem that really touched my heart. it should be required reading for anyone buying a pet.
