A Roadside Flower
The day began in a radiant glow
And the rain had settled the dust
There arose such a sight the eye was wide
For in the din of morning’s light
A flower smiled with glimmer and grace
With petals so fine and velvet to touch
And pistle of snowy white
The green of her leaves and willowed stem
So slight of height aura of poise
Standing alone compassion perceived
Fresh fragrance not tainted by man
When closing my eyes young again
Aroma flittered wafting in the breeze
I felt it inside and all about
This sensory moment linger not end
No baggage nor toil to rend any harm
Endearing in warmth completely pervades
Outstretched arms and frailty of limb
She offers up to thy inner self
Do not waver but hold what she gives
She brings to us from Persian days
Sense of innocence no hostile thought
When natural being was all we knew
No sorrow nor trials of consequence
Only days and nights for our dreams
Some of us in our own special way
Reminisce and smile unto space
Thoughts of when freedom grew
To make love not war
And the sixties live on in a flowers smile
I met that lady some years ago
When she sat by the roadside
With her radiant glow
Now we share the joy of our love
With our hearts, hands, smiles and embrace
