After Today

Contributed by Amanda_Interrupted on Monday, 13th December 2004 @ 02:05:47 AM in AEST
Topic: Patriotic

I can never again be the same way
Never again, not after today
One tower fell, many tears were cried
The other went down, almost 3,000 died
No, I wasn’t there, I didn’t see
The horrible sight, the flying debris
My heart broke in some 3,000 pieces, one for each person gone
And one for our nation that remains strong
For we did not deserve such a terrible fate
Yet still I refuse to let myself hate
Our towers are gone but our flag still flies!
Oh, Dear God hear our nations cries!
Let the young and the old
The weak and the bold
The black and the white
The wrong and the right
Break dividing walls
And dismiss each other’s flaws
United we will be
Our nation’s freedom will still ring!
Together we will stand
Claiming freedom for this land
Freedom from hate, freedom from terror
One nation united we declare!
“Help these people!” One fireman cried
While trying to make hungry flames subside
So many lost, a need to cry
So many questions, such as why?
So many hurt, so many to mourn
So many hearts broken, shattered and torn
Fear now consumes a part of us all
Fear in some for, great or small
So never again can we be the same way
Never again, not after today
When I look around all I see
Is such division between you and me
But now I realize a change must be made
All this division must now fade
We bleed the same blood and breathe the same air
Now let us all love, let us all care
Let us be changed from our selfish ways
Let is appreciate all of our days
Let us remember 9-11-2001
Yet be thankful for the day that’s just begun
This is my last and final plea
Let us love America, home of the brave and free
-Amanda Bentley

Wow, you really captured my attention. The beginning was strong and midway through I was hooked, you’re ending seemed to stray from the original potency and a typo steered me off the emotional intentions I think you were going for. Great piece, looking for more.
