One November Day

Crisp breezes sweeping through the colored, fallen leaves
People pass bundled in scarves and coats hiding from the cold
Red noses and cheeks come and go, begging for warmth
I greet hurried eyes with a sweet simple smile
To my left is a man, who is bearded and grey
His eyes are not as hurried as the others
Instead they are desperate and slow
He waits for any sign of salvation
To my right is a store covered in holiday lighting
Luring customers in to continue their holiday shopping
The "ding" of the cash register can be heard quite often
Giving the impression that sales are doing well
I continue walking in this cold November weather
As I think about what I have seen
It seems everyone is too involved with their own lives
To care at all about their fellow mankind
In this "season of giving", companies ask you to give to yousrelves
Mankind is forgotten in the flurry of money
Bearded grey men are left to themselves
Left to make good of what they have: Nothing
I turn back to the man I saw so sad on the street
And invite him to my home for warmth, a shower, and a shave
I buy him new clothes and ask nothing in return
My only wish is that he gain control of his life this holiday
This is what I have given mankind
I haven't much more to give
I know everyone deserves another chance
Who am I to deny a homeless man one?

Awww i totally agree with everything said in this poem. I t remins me of one time when i was little and went shopping with my mom, as we were in the car, i saw a homelss man and it made me cry. It is sad how people could care so little, but if that were tem, would they not want help too?
