Seasons of Life

Topic: Lifepoems

Cast your mind back to when it was pure
Unsullied by experience, sweetened by ignorance
Words were comfort, not blades to stab in your back
Everything so black and white, no mixed up shades of grey
Innocent eyes, wide and expectant
Anything was possible in the first light of spring

Boundaries of self yet to be explored
Friendship pacts designed to last forever
You conquered the world with a sword of broken wood
Believed in Father Christmas and seldom told a lie
Innocent eyes, enchanting new horizons
Everything so magical in the vibrant dance of spring

As days pass by with heat comes cold
Euphoric highs soon crushed by damning lows
Overblown traumas of troubled teenage life
Knowing all yet so little, a journey still in bloom
Independant eyes, seeing glimpses of the future
Not completely stained by disappointments of the past

No longer the need to justify, nor always need for truth
Responsibility put aside, false promises strewn
Like the clothes that litter the sanctuary of our private space
Tomorrow is just another day, carefree is the master now
Independant eyes, blinkered by dreams
Utopia still will be ours, for we believe it so

A hazy mist descends, a curtain hides the light
Somehow we manage to swallow the pill, like so many of those before
We wonder, were the choices made the best that we could make ?
Did we walk the path less arduous, did we take the safest route ?
Cynical eyes, staring at the world
Thinking the grass is greener, there on the other side

To want those things we cannot have and do not truly need
Sometimes jealousy strangles, all sense of reason lost
The dawn holds no suprises, life's mystery undone
Stare at the mirror and count the lines, worry gave you a gift
Cynical eyes, mistrusting and bitter
Bodies broken by the weight of their troubles

In our twilight we will mellow, smile at what we are
Look back at our journey, make peace with our soul
Those things left uncompleted, perhaps not meant to be
The calm descends, we give ourselves to uncomplicated ways
Accepting eyes, the flames of dwindling fire
Maybe winter is the greatest of the seasons of life

This is a profound treatise of the variousn stages in life.
Yet each season has it's excellence.
Pity the one who cannot be surprised for the wonders that unfold before the eyes of the innocent, or the wise eyes of the old that radiate innocense that sees the wonders
Cynycism is blind and cold. Much wiser to cry out lout our need then the vision will be clear.
Great poen treatise- true meditation.
Let's learn from it.
Elizabeth
