Oh Mom

Topic: SadPoetry

Oh Mom, please tell me, why did you have to die?
I need you now to comfort me, when I begin to cry,
Thirty years later, and I’m your little boy that’s lost,
Made such a huge mess of things to my terrible cost,

Oh Mom, it was awful, you leaving us and going,
Changed the way I behaved, without me even knowing,
So at the age of ten, all that was certain, disappeared,
Made me petrified of loss, and since I’ve always feared,

Oh Mom, when I was told you’d died; I disbelieved,
Kept thinking you’d walk back in, so I never grieved,
The result; I hid all of my feelings, deep down inside,
Never showed my emotions, thought I’d kept my pride,

Oh Mom, for thirty years now, I’ve been so insecure,
Behaved in ways I shouldn’t have because I was unsure,
So I erected a façade, designed to isolate and protect,
Protected my fragile ego, but my family it wrecked,

Oh Mom, when I think of you, lavender fills the air,
Takes me to warm summers when I didn’t have a care,
But it’s so very different now, every single day I cry,
I really need a hug Mom, why did you have to die?
