It is the night hawk
Peering down on barren meadows
Searching
For its next meal
It is the cold wind blowing
Through the ghostly trees
And a howl
Lonely and desperate in the distance
The crack of a thunderous whip
Across a desert of silence
The deafening roar
Of a forest ablaze
Your breath is snatched away
Like the songbird to the serpent's waiting mouth
A wall of ice
Numbing your heart
Destroying you mind
Conquering your soul
This is fear.
This is life.
