Not All Grown Up

Huddling in this shadowed enclosure
of my mind I am but a child, with
untold nightmares and fearless fantasies.
Still scared of the dark because I know
the boogeyman is around the corner, yet I
continue to dream of far-away Neverland.
Slowly slipping forward I can hear my
short, cut-off breath as your words
bite into my soul, feeding my anger.
Returning from my tortured spirit I
take over the body once again...
again and again.
I know you don't mean what you
say, but it hurts so much...
when you're still a child.
