Blood Petals

Contributed by theDeathRaven on Saturday, 4th December 2004 @ 12:40:39 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

The mature leaves in autumn,
Arranged to fall gracefully in the lake of the forgetfulness,
fleeting memories of the life arrive,

Where are now the children and the old women?
there is no eyes for cry
there is no mouth for moan
They are now only a pile of skulls in the Tzompantli of my mind

the blood of the pure girls who have been deflorated,
like the precious rose, whose petals has been falling down on the lake, is no more
My city , my children, my old women have been gone

(Verse by Nezahualcóyotl)
Ni hual choca in
ni hual icnotlamati
zan ca anicnihuan
azo toxochiuh on
¿ma ye ic ninapantiuh
can on Ximohuayan?
Nihuallaocoya.

Glossary:
Tzompantli : it was an altar where the skulls of the sacrificed ones were placed

the free translation of the Nezahualcóyotl verse is:
Here, i put myself to cry
I'm just a singer
See my friends!, chance with our flowers.
I have to get dressed there where are those that do not have body?
i put myself sad

Although the translation isn't perfect, its far better than I could do back into Mexican spanish. I think it enhances the experience of your ancestral memory, and in your questioning of the ether and your pictures of golden leaves falling, you elucidate the essence of longing and pain.

The Neza part at the end is especially poignant.

Thanks for writing this for us english-speakers, and keep writing.

Hello, thanks for your comments.
i forgot to say that this poetry is also a tribute to the great king and poet Nezahualcóyotl.
