Winter's Embrace

Contributed by blackmarker on Friday, 3rd December 2004 @ 03:47:29 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

It was late in winter evening,
While Dirty Autumn danced on ice.
Beneath her weight it cracked and split,
As she strove toward new heights.

Falling up and standing down,
Dizzy, she still spun.
Refusing to give up, give in,
Until her night was won.

Embrace me now, O tender peace!
She cried into still breeze.
Take me at once and make it end,
Do with me what you please.

Take me, I beg, just make it stop!
She hollered while weeping, slow.
Her tears froze upon pale lashes,
And drifted away like snow.

Onto the ice, her Prince Charming marched,
He smiled and kissed her hand.
I’ll make you whole, soon enough,” he swore,
I’ll take you to a promise-land.

And so, with that, they began to turn,
And danced a dance for two.
Sliding, gliding, to-and-fro,
On thin ice, glittering and blue.

As they turned ‘round the ice melted away,
As did Dirty Autumn’s heart.
With one misstep she slipped and fell,
And shuddered with a start.

Sinking low in winter’s embrace,
The water swallowed her down.
Drifting gradually toward the mud,
Weighted by her golden crown.

Within the bitter cold water,
Soft tendrils snatched her breath.
With one soft sigh and a gentle smile,
She floated toward her death.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
