A Memory Of You

Contributed by Clarity_Rising on Thursday, 2nd December 2004 @ 05:32:54 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I love to look back in time,
To see your smiling face,
And to remember those sunny days,
When we’d watch the sailboats race.

On the wooden porch swing,
We’d gaze across the lake,
And rock the swing in time
With the waves along the wake.

The sailboats would pass by
In a kaleidoscope of color.
Each coaxing the wind,
Trying to pass the other.

We’d smile, chat, and giggle,
I always held your hand,
I was your little granddaughter,
And you, my new best friend.

Sometimes I still go out
To see the sailboats race,
I sit alone on the old chair swing
And think of your smiling face.

This pome is absolutely beautiful, i was touched by it, along with the imagery of it.
I could actual experience it as i was reading it. Truly a delicate work of art in every scence of the word.

Right on! I can totally connect with the grandfather being your best friend as a child, thoug I am not quite a child anymore I still appreciate all of my grandparents but definately that one special grandfather who helped raise me. I really got into this one. These lines really brought me into the poem:
"We’d smile, chat, and giggle,
I always held your hand,
I was your little granddaughter,
And you, my new best friend."

This is simple and effective. It is written as a memory that is both specific to you and general at the same time and it lets your readers overlay their own personal experiences onto the poem and get even more from it by empathizing.

I always love poems like that. :)

This touched my heart so much and brought a tear to my eye. It brought back memories of my best friend who died last year. I miss him so much, but like yourself, I have his beautiful memories to help me go on. I would like to thank you so much for posting this. Take care my dear fellow poet~
*big hugs*
