The Path

The Path
By Jim Hellekson

In the beginning the path was smooth, a well-paved road was there. Whenever I felt lost and alone I could look ahead and see a path so full of care.
But as I continue to walk down the road of life the path beings to spread, routes over bridges through forests and caves whose conclusion I cannot comprehend.
I now see strangers beside the road, asking for advice, telling me which path to choose, showing me how to roll the dice.
As I stand at this fork I know not what to choose, both paths are so rocky so steep, the wrong choice means my dreams I lose.
But it is my choice down which path to tread. My fate is here to win or lose. I’m just so scared that the path to darkness to uncertainty is the path that I will choose.
Its time for me to make a choice, my fate I must decide, no longer will I cower and run and in the closet hide.
This is my life, not yours, don’t tell me what to choose, if I fail I fail my dreams are my own to lose.
