Mental Martyr

Contributed by Nazmythian on Wednesday, 1st December 2004 @ 11:46:15 PM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I sat bathed in firelight
And day was birthed from darkest night
A trial was staged within my dreams
Overseen by Kings and Queens
A jury of supposed peers
Snickered, scoffed, stared and sneered
I was accused of heresy
For words I used and dared to say
‘Twas sacrilege and heinous wrong
Depicting weak what was thought strong
That which my pen had put to page
Was viewed as revolution’s rage
The page then fed a growing fire
Burning bright, my funeral pyre
Convicted ‘ere I spoke a word
My death sentence would soon be heard
And even though it mattered not
To speak my peace, one chance I got
When queried of my own defense …
“I hope I made a difference”
Ohhhhhhhh good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE this. Geesh - you're good! I KNOW there is much to this - what's below the surface is so potent that it nearly burst through the words... but not quite... your masterful web is just enough to hold it in. But, I have guesses, thoughts, questions... geez -- it's the same sort of feeling I get when I read Plath and find myself thinking "Damn, I wish she still around". And that, dear Naz - is a high compliment.
This is a fabulous analogy... assuming my thinking is good thinking here. I'm a bit thrown by the 'death sentence' - but, I shall read and re-read and maybe I'll get it. Otherwise, I'll just harrass you until you become willing (lol! wanting to rid yourself of the irritation that is me!) to explain it to me.
I think this is brilliant. Excellent write!
this has a touch of EAP, you know what i mean. i loved this, although i am not sure if it is part of our angry outburst at these people on here or just an outburst in general. either way i loved it, you are a great writer and poet, i have always admired you Scott,
Sincerely,
Dane
The last line does it for me , really finishes off an excellent poem
“I hope I made a difference”?
maybe if we all acted upon our thoughts and battled injustice instead of just standing idley by the world would be a better place.
5 stars for this one.
Johnny.
Interesting. This reminds me of the times the words come into my head, and they're good, but I'm too lazy to get out of bed and write them down and when I wake up, they're gone. I don't think that's what it's about, but that's what it made me think of. Isn't the creative process fascinating?
Naz, you certainly make a difference; and you positively make a difference to me. Maybe that is what poetry is all about....to make a difference. Again, a very powerful write. As a further thought, it could make a difference to the writer or reader.
A wonderful write Naz
Thank you so much for your feedback on my recent poems. Your critique is always important to me.
What can I say that others have not? You simply amaze, dear poet.
Sometimes I feel unworthy just being witness to your
most incredible talent! And what a difference you DO make.
From the very first poem I read of yours to your last,
my heart is stilled, my mind quiet, my whole being in awe
out of admiration and respect for you.
Bravo, Nazzy! Bravo!
This piece sent shivers!! Such power!! Such intensity in these words you weave so beautifully! An operatic write to steal the breath of many for all eternity!! Dearest Scott, you never fail to impress, enchant, and entice your readers. Another masterpiece to visit. My eyes lingered over this perfection three times, and it still evoked ice drops trickling down my spine... Absolutely incredible! You've done it again, cheri. The great poet prevails!
Mon chasseur sombre doué, you have made a difference... All my love! Forever,
Votre fleur enchantée. *Stephy*
