An Empty Shell

Contributed by AnastasiaN on Wednesday, 1st December 2004 @ 11:04:04 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I hear the same words you said once before
and my mind says you'll do it again
my heart refuses to listen
because comfort is what it might be missing
should I choose to follow logic
I live in this shell
this painfully secret hell
that you constructed for me long ago
it was founded on lies
that made me despise
every word that has been said to me since
i can't have it back
my heart has turned black
like the colour of your betrayal
i hate you for your lies
and God knows that I've tried
to just let the past die
i live in this shell
a dark secret hell
the love i once felt
died when your cards were dealt
your mistakes have broken
all that we shared
and i hate feeling so empty
when I once was so alive
i can't have it back
the trust that i now lack
you stole my heart and ran
and you can't have it back again
i hate you for what you've done
i gave up everything because you said you'd be the one
to protect me and love me
but you just showed me
that i can never trust my heart again
i still live in this shell
a dark and lonely hell
that i can't escape from
but for now I'll play dumb
i keep hoping for something new
my heart just wants something true
so I'll sit in my shell
and suffocate in this hell
and wait for the end to come soon
