Almond Eyes

She’s trying way too hard to look so beautiful for everyone she’s falling for.
Screaming to herself she says, “Why am I even trying? My ugly almond eyes just end up crying stars all the time!”
Every night she prays to God that He would just tell her what everyone is thinking,
But he hasn’t answered back.
She would really like to live in a world of make-believe, where fantasy is a dream come true compared to reality.
And she is really begging to get there,
But it hasn’t happened yet.
Her greatest wish would be to run away with the person she loves in the pouring rain,
To a world where she doesn’t seem to care about make-up, hair, and a lot of other meaningless things.
Her one true desire is that she could just stop caring altogether, and that he would love her for the person she has yet to become.
Leading her on would just break her fragile heart…so why even bother?
Maybe when everything is eventually erased away,
Like fakes and fat and lonely dreams of one night stands,
And desperate attempts at batting short eyelashes…
Maybe when she washes the black out of her eyes,
Or perhaps it will be when life throws her a pleasant new surprise,
Or when reality becomes just like romantic two-hour movies,
And the only thing missing is the subtle goodnight kiss,
That leaves her hanging, wondering what he’s thinking.
Maybe when she can dance with him,
And not a single note of music will be heard.
Or maybe it will be when everyone she falls in love with,
Can tell her that she’s gorgeous, and she’ll like it.
Maybe then she can stop painting her face up every time she leaves,
It’s such a waste; she ends up crying it off anyway.
For just right now she makes it sound like he’s made a better mistake,
Like smiling at her for one more day,
Like cluttering her feelings by not reassuring her,
She wants him to tell her she’ll be okay.
She’s been naïve,
She believes his hearsay,
And continues on wishing her life away.
She has a lot of faith that somewhere there’s a guy,
One that dreams of laying under star-filled October skies,
With autumn wind,
And him and her would catch glowing fireflies,
And they would kiss beneath their light.
He could be the one that saves her.
She’s been deprived of hearing she’s beautiful,
If he could say it just one time…
Fantasy seems too good to be true compared to reality, right?
