An Incarnation of Goddess..

Contributed by venkat on Sunday, 28th November 2004 @ 11:05:59 PM in AEST
Topic: mythology

* * *
Of yore, lords of constellations
and mighty angels of heavens
forgot their source of brilliance
and were proud of their effulgence.
Their ignorance gave a chance
to the rise of a demon king named
Mahish from the womb of a black hole!
* * *
When Mahish, the demon of valor
Vanquished the gods and took their
Lordship over earth and heavens,
immortals in distress approached
The Lord of universe reported
tof heir miseries wrought by Mahish.
“O Lord! The king of demons
Took the charges of Sun
And Moon, Earth, Water, Fire
And Air and all were enslaved!”
On hearing their words the Lord of universe
grew angry and then a great light
issued forth from the face of the Lord.
* * *
Then from the bodies of other gods
Clusters of great light sprang forth and
Concentrated, blazed like a huge mountain
of light assumed form of a beautiful maiden.
Her luster pervaded three worlds.
Her face shone like a golden lotus.
The light of fire formed her three eyes.
The light of Lord formed her mighty arms.
Her breasts formed of sun and moon
the twilights formed her eyebrows
the light of night shone as her black hair.
By the light of oceans formed her thighs,
By the light of earth formed her hips
Her feet formed out of the lightening
The milky ways formed Her necklaces!
The lord of Himalayan Mountains gifted
Her a mighty lion and to Her other gods
gifted shining armor and divine arms!
The Lady of light then laughed like peals
Of thousands of clouds and her laughter
shook the quarters, earth and heavens.
* * *
Then Mahish the lord of demons
Disturbed and enraged sent his valorous
Generals followed by millions of armies
to the battlefield where the lady of light
mounting on her lion was ready to fight.
They amazed, laughed, and ridiculed
and shouted in anger. Six generals
of the demon armies masters of evil
Raising war cries started terrible battle.
Hurled swords, javelins, and halberds
and the armies shot forth fiery-arrows
Touched her body but broken to pieces.
They hurled missiles and many fiery arms
but her arrows reduced them to ashes.
No trace of strain was seen on her face
when she sighed, from her sighs came
out countless troops of divine forces
started battle with armies of the demons.
As several heads of demons rolled down
Cries filled the battlefield that turned
into a sea of blood. Even the lion
vehicle of the lady jumped over
the demons caused their destruction.
Then suddenly by the magic exercised
by generals of Mahish the severed heads
of demons joined their trunks and even
The trunks torn asunder clubbed together
All demons so far dead came to life and
Resumed fighting showing fierce valor.
Some head less trunks of demons arose
And danced wildly in the pools of blood
Even the vampires and ghosts of demons
Challenged the divine forces for combats
The divine energies were brutally beaten
Tired in the battle they felt despair.
Seeing plight of her forces the lady
turned them into blazing flames of light
Encircled by the flames, the armies of demons
and six generals were burnt and reduced to ashes!
* * *
Having heard the destruction of his armies
the most valiant Mahish, lord of demons
Taking shape a buffalo rushed to the battlefield
Bellowed on the ground where divine forces
were dancing like myriads of blazing flames.
He leaped over the flames like the darkest hell fire
by his touch the divine flames lost their luster
By the blows of his muzzle and by the lashes of tail
By stamping of his hooves and by pokes of his horns
By his impetuous speed, by bellows terrifying
By blasts of his poisonous breath and by wheeling
Movements he created the tempests of blackest fire
Raged the divine forces down on the battle ground.
He pounded the earth with hooves in rage
Tossed up the mountains by his horns.
Crushed by the velocity of his wheeling
Earth was disintegrated, seas overflowed
Thus he wrought great destruction of nature.
Enraged by the evil acts of Mahish
The lady of light flung her huge noose of time
Bound him but he took the form of a man and
Rushed unto her and by seizing the lady
He sprang up and mounted high into sky.
The great lady then without any support fought
the demon king while surprising hosts of gods.
After carrying great fight for a long time she
Lifted him up, whirled him around and flung
Him down on the earth causing great earthquakes
Then the demon king assumed the form of buffalo
Trying to rise but she jumped down and landed
herself on him, pressed on his neck by her foot
Struck down terrible spear into his heart
Half issued forth from buffalo form, Mahish was
Caught up under her foot, overcome by her valor.
Then her blazing sword struck off his head
in a crying consternation his vital airs left out.
Then the hosts of Angels offering salutations
bowed their heads and extolled Her in delight:
O Mighty Goddess! Mother of universe! Obeisance!
Thou art the supreme light exists in the universe
Thou art the supreme power protecting the universe
Thou art the supreme knowledge that exists in Vedas
Thou art the destroyer of ignorance of men and gods
Thou art the great destroyer of sins of your devotees
Thou art the granter of peace and joy, health and wealth
May we be protected by thy compassionate glances
Om! Obeisance! Obeisance! O Lady of light! Obeisance!

Most definately, some of the best verse I have seen in quite some time, Venkat . Certainly a true pleasure to read. The story was well told and depicted. This reader was spellbound, start to finish. I give a deep bow, to a true wordsmith and wish that there were more than 5 stars to award. *****

Your poetry is more of a journey. The words seem to poor out of you. You always have lots of content that keep the readers attention. Once you start reading, you can't stop. I have yet to find that place inside me where I can write with such fluidity and include such detail with so many words and not make it boring. You are a great gift to our community. Don't let it go to you head *laugh*! Just joking! Thanks for reading my opinion.

You are the beloved companion of Brahma, Rudra and Vishnu. The Vedas and the Shastras describe you as the queen companion of Shiva Sixty-four Yoginis chorus your glory and glorify you, while Shiva dances in tune to the accompaniment of the sound of tambourines and drum .
Mother Gauri, glory to you, the object of daily meditation by Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. O Ambe!

A Fountain of Awe

Namaste
