Over You I Stood

Contributed by pixie on Saturday, 27th November 2004 @ 09:35:16 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Over your lifeless body I stood,
Lay in your coffin crafted of pine wood,
I reach out for your hand & then I stop,
My knees feel weak, I am ready to drop.

I want to touch you but I am scared,
It feels as if you are not really there,
You are in body, but not mind or soul,
So therefore you are not complete, not whole.

You look so peaceful in the arms of death,
How I wish I could’ve give you my last breath,
But you died all alone with no-one around,
Your once strong body crumpled on the ground.

I remember back to the day that we met,
That is a time I will never forget,
You promised me you would never leave,
You lied to me as here for you I now grieve.

A tear falls onto your pale cheek,
I realised now that my unhappiness is at its peak,
I wish that I could change places with you,
I stroke your cold lips, which are so dead & so blue.

I wish I could tell you of all of my hurt,
But my heart will go down with you in the dirt,
Over your pine coffin I lonely stood,
If I could swap places with you I would.

This is a lovely poem but you must consider what you are saying. Would you honestly rather be dead and let the man in the coffin live on? You could be dead and alone forever, or you can live on earth and feel alone for a little while...but then move on. Be careful what you wish for.

i have stood my place beside that pine box.....wishing to bury myself right along with her.....aching to join the cold ground.....feel something besides the pain of burying a first born love........you have captured that searing burn here.......
