I wanted to wake you up with the sun on your face,
But I couldn’t catch the light in my hands.
I wanted to wake you with a kiss on your lips,
But between us are so many lands.
I wanted to wake you with the happiest song,
But none of the angels sang it best.
I wanted to wake you up and be there by your side,
But you stay there in your land of rest.
I wanted to wake you with the touch of my hands,
I wanted to wake you with a smile from your bed,
I wanted to be the one to wake you,
But all I can do is say to the rising sun, “Good morning sleepyhead.”
