Burnt Popcorn

Contributed by ShadowDaughter on Friday, 26th November 2004 @ 12:46:05 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

you have dwindled
to thin fingers
tainted jaundice-yellow
(it stains your
nails, teeth, words)

remember when
they stretched
in firefly pursuit
on that field, painted with
the tears of Eos?
(-I don't.)

or when
they sought raspberries
gritty and bitter
hidden by brambles;
remember?
(-I don't.)

even when
they were tinged with
burnt popcorn aroma
after video rental nights?
(remind me)

-now
all their potential
is yellow alone
(when was the last time
they caught a firefly?)

and smoke, really,
smells nothing like burnt popcorn.

Quite sad. She's changed now, maybe she can again. Cling to the good memories; don't let them fade away. Yes, but I do pity you for having to deal with such a wretched change as this.

I remember when i had the urge to slap the cigarette out of the hand of every passerby who smoked..because of someone I loved.. I felt such hatred for the damned things. I know how you feel..sigh.

That has to hurt. It's a sad picture of how a person can take the wrong way in life. And I wonder, was it a single misstep, that escalated? A chain of bad decisions? Or a willful mindset of rebellion? Apparently we most certainly can choose to have a terrible life.

But perhaps with some it takes total humiliation and defeat before they grow humble enough to learn some wisdom. Pray this is the case.

Hmn . . . having stopped smoking (yay for me, again), I can relate to the revulsion of waste I feel here . . . as it also portends to succumbing to an ill fate, on another level . . . as well as the nicotene . . .

Thinking . . . I am,

Very meaningful write. I am an ex-smoker; and grateful I quit. But this poem is a reminder of how bad I feel that my kids all smoke. Maybe I need to be more direct in letting them know how their smoking affects how I feel. I mean, they expect me to take good care of myself, so........

A great write, very well done

Yellow. Gosh... it's so often employed to represent beauty, hope, happiness... and here - it is so painfully not that.

It's your A/N here that got my mind spinning... journeying through this write and then beyond. You're right, Nora ---sadly, things change that shouldn't --- how I wish I knew how to stop it from happening. But (and call me naive if you want to)... I'm holding on to the belief that the changes, those horrid stains, are sitting on the surface of something (someone) that remains untainted at the core.

Thinking *sigh* that wisdom can be both a blessing and a curse-
*hugs*

everything changes. everyone changes. you just gotta go with it. everything happens for a reason. she needs to go through this. we all hurt ourselves in our own way. some of us just understand why better than others.

love ya.

Again I am impressed by the journey through your mind...you are a wonderfully creative thinker as well as sensitive....a sometimes painful, yet wonderful combination.
Please never stop writing!
