On That Fateful Night

Contributed by pixie on Friday, 26th November 2004 @ 10:13:53 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

On that fateful night,
She stared up at the moon so bright,
Wiped a tear as it fell from her eyes,
Sobbed silently so no-one would hear her cries.

She looked around her bedroom,
All she felt was horror & gloom,
The memories she had were far from good,
She had drifted far so she did not feel the blood.

As it dripped onto the floor from her arm,
For years she had been a lover of self harm,
Everyone thought of her as such a happy girl,
Thought she didn’t have a care in the whole world.

But they couldn’t be further from the truth,
She had lost long ago a big part of her youth,
Too many things had happened just to forget,
The past in her mind was already set.

No-one knew of the pain she endured,
Nobody knew of all the blood that poured,
From her cuts as she slit her skin open,
Not a soul knew of the pain that was unspoken.

Never did anyone ask her how she felt,
Or could stop the hurt that to her was being dealt,
She was sick & tired of her pain filled, awful life,
She slowly dropped to the floor at the mercy of her knife.

A very powerfully poetic work. This story is tragic, very tragic. Yet I think you made clear the real tragedy does not lie in her actions as much as it does the cause of her actions. The last stanza takes a tragic tale and makes it so much more tragic.
