the giving away

Contributed by darkeyedman on Friday, 22nd November 2002 @ 10:30:00 PM in AEST
Topic: SpecialOccassion

My daughter and I walk arm in arm,
Her White lace and vale
painted blue and red and green
By the sun shining through
The stainglass windows.
Nothing exists at this moment but hope.
Hope for happiness deserved
And innocence preserved.
I hope her passions never become hobbies,
And her heros never become men.
Let wonder surround her
And surprise never run out of her life.
The joys of discovery and triumph
That we shared as she grew
Into this woman at my side
Race through my mind.
Tiny arms flung around my neck,
Glad that daddy was home.
The delight of sharing the flower she picked.
Report cards and a hundred skinned knees.
Her first car, her first date.
The frustrated tears when she was sure
I just didn’t understand.
The pride when she showed me her ring.
I let go of her frail trembling hand
And she looks into my eyes.
And for that one second,
She is still mine.

This gave me chills, too. It's so beautiful. A framed copy would make a lovely gift for her first anniversary.
:)

Delightful poem ... beautiful images. I love your lines "I hope her passions never become hobbies, and her heroes never become men" .... superb.
