She curled up against her twin-sized bed
Snuggling a blanket of memories and queen-sized dreams
Knowing wonderland was but an eyelid away
All the Everafters and Onceupons daintily playing
Upon the moonlight puddle pouring through her window
(It all seemed just like yesterday,
but it wasn’t.
(Her toes touched the wall beyond her
And her head was an inch from the edge
Of falling off
—Like her dreams—
Her blanket, battered, defenseless
Against the icy glow raining from the sky
Her mattress was all broken springs
And her fifteen-year-old teddy’s tummy nolonger said
“I love you.”
(‘Life didn’t work that way,’
And ‘You can’t always get what you want’
Because ‘Everyone has to grow up someday’
So ‘She got something,
But lost something else.’
(So, so?)
So she curled up against her twin-sized bed
Snuggling a blanket of memories and queen-sized dreams
Knowing wonderland was but an eyelid away
All the Everafters and Onceupons daintily playing
Upon the moonlight puddle pouring through her window
Closed her eyes,
And it was all just like yesterday.

I don't think you need to.
Quite a write.
My hat's off to you.

I think I appreciate it more with the viewpoint being female - nice work, not always easy to do.
Wonderful package, I loved how you ended with the start - don't all things?
Nice job-

Intriguing. If I didn't know the author, I would have guessed on you-know-who.
"moonlight puddle" ?
I like that . . . |
