Darkness at this Time of Year

Often people get high on happiness
Around this time of year,
But Christmas isn’t all that great
Well not as it first appears
For you see it’s a continuation of fallen darkness
Bestowed on both my eyes,
Because from dawn till dusk
The sun is gone and lies asleep above the clouds
This dreaded darkness lives long and strong
For months and blinds our view of life,
It affects our emotions that change so fast
And sit on the point of a knife
So when the sun rises again
The moon can get some rest,
Then when I wake in the morning
My smile will be a welcome guest
