To Pain

Pain stalks like a jealous lover
That won't let go,
It shows up like a selfish guest
For a prolonged unwelcome stay,
Gives your life no consideration,
Invites itself back in for a visit
Whenever it feels like it,
Eats your very heart
Out of house and home,
Never returns the favor
Except to grow louder
And more bombastic with time,
Dismisses any hints
As you try to show its way,
For good, to the door.
It's an arrogant lover,
Too conceited to leave you,
It's left you overspent,
Broken flat,
With nowhere left to go,
Pack up your life
And walk out.

That's an interesting take on pain. She (or he I suppose) can be a real ***** to deal with.
I wrote something with a similar theme a couple of weeks ago and wondered if it was unique or had been done before. I guess so... people write about what's important to them. Sorry you're hurting but I like your poem. |
