Surrender me.
My heart is the water of the river that runs along the emptiest night.
The stars are my fever and reed that dip and sing among the sands.
Had I ever known such depths; the dust of my love is spat from the shadow of thine eyes; thy shadow swells, and casts no longer into thy depth.
What have I unto thy beauty sought?
What treasure more than thy finger upon thy fastened lips?
Wouldst thou in thy love consider thy clarity; wouldst thou, against thy sweetest breath, open thine own heart and find thyself confined?
What is my love then, if I surrender not, that thine own love be cast asunder and whither in my repression.
There are those loves that, as the mighty thunders bellow and trumpet their fury, face ahead and heave against their own intrepid light.
We are not of that love.
No, we are of the tiniest waters to play among the surf that, of its own regard, withdraws, and sweeps away the sand.
And we are the songs of the sons of the dead that stumble and choke with broken voice; and we are their tears that smolder and grow. Surrender me!
Thou art the light that burdens no shadow, and I am the shadow that falls claim to the night; what gift might I give more than thine own acquittal.
Might I say I love and with open arms adore, and break thy wings that thou shall never soar again?
Is it not in thy desire to know the sky again; is it not in thy heart to broaden thy wings and touch the moon again?
Thine hour is upon thee; thy choice is fluttered near, tethered gentle petal, to trust thy waters clear and sip thy boundless love.
Suffer not thine eyes upon me, let thy sight lay forward and above, and falter nothing in thy stead.
For my love of thee, I hold my arms outspread, that in thy troubled times, thou may look behind and see that I have also bled.
My love is to be shadow cast upon the vacancies of light, my light the darkness of the darkest night; I walked among the lilies beside the waters end, I drank of the moon, and of all the stars descend one bright against my breast; and by it I have slept; and by it I have wept and kissed so gently and sought to keep its breath. But alas! From the seizure of my heart, to the calamity of land, I could not bear thee, thy love upon my hand.
And now, to complete thee, the fierce and frozen plume that draws the sunlight to thy face, I find myself afraid.
Thou art the silver night riding over the empty plain; the moonlight over the shattered waters, thy locks unfold against the currents of the spring; the song of thy son is a beautiful love, and it is written, and it is done.
