if there’s one thing i can always count on, it’s the water breaking my fall

i was drunk and driving
remembering what went on in your apartment
if all you have are words and all i have are words
then talk is cheap.
thunder came, a prelude to rain
the coldest showers i’ve ever felt
and it reminded me of the night
when you and i exchanged promises
it rained like this
and we both were crying
but i don’t think you knew.
like the glass in my windshield
promises were broken
i’m crashing through the barricade
and into the ocean.
the waves pull me under
and my lungs fill with water.
my body feels colder
and still i’m happier than i’ve ever been.
any minute now, i’ll lose consciousness
with your face in my mind
and those words on my tongue.
i promise this isn’t over yet.
i promise this isn’t over yet.

Well it's an interesting story. It appears you went from reality (or story type poem) to a metaphor. Anyway, keep writing. |
