I was born
the son of a shepherd.
A man of simplicity,
a man of great splendor.
Or maybe not a man,
or a person at all,
maybe just a being
whom you're likely to call
when you're consumed with
anger, sadness, or guilt,
a solace to turn to
when you're faith starts to wilt
like burned out flowers
placed by the sea,
next to profound foot prints
left in your sleep.
I was born
the son of a shepherd.
He's always by my side
reminding me, things'll be better
if I give him my hand,
and follow him closely,
I have moments of doubt,
but mostly
there's a fondness and faith
that is devoid of scorn,
that is unyielding and joyous,
as certain as the 'morn.
I am never ashamed to say
that I was born
the son of a shepherd.
Amen
