Slow music, plays softly
From the kitchen
I tend to get in the way
She kisses me and I leave
I find our program
On the Television
We eat, watch, talk together
About our day, people we know
Greasy plates, cigarettes
She washes her hair
In the kitchen, I rinse
A little scrubbing, always
A warm lazy night
We watch the sky
Not too far from home
Hot coffee, good company
Unforgettable afternoons
The days didn't matter
Is it possible for anyone
To tell a story about them?
Yesterday I called Bill
I asked him about his wife
He told me about a night
In a quiet downtown cafe
I told him my account
Of coffee, cigarettes
Cheap rum, imported beer
Sleepy eyes and kisses
Cool touch, warm feelings
The glass looks like crystal
Good wine numbs the heart
When you remember alone
I hold in my mind
Visions perfect
Those days long past
A fountain of youth
I remember from a storybook
Does it hurt to be made real?
Yes, but when you're real
You don't mind being hurt
Those sweet nothing days
I'd never care to recall
The longing comes first
The return of happiness
