My Mask

Contributed by LayDownPlayDead on Thursday, 21st November 2002 @ 10:45:00 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

This mask I wear is slowing falling apart. This is my only defense, to pretend and let anybody see past this mask. The mask is great and wonderful. It is happy and everything I wish I could be. But underneath it's so ugly, sad and disturbed. I don't want you to take this mask off me. I want to stay hidden forever, but you won't let me. You see through it all, you can see the ugliness but for some reason it doesn't scare you. Maybe I wish it did, at least if you were scared I’d be able to hide still. Why won’t you let me pretend? Why won’t you let me leave on the mask and let me seem happy to everyone? I don’t understand why you want to know the pain and horrible things that are under this mask.

I know its hard, because I've done the whole thing before too. Obviously though this person cares if they want to know the real you. If they didn't care they would let you wear whatever masks you wanted. They may act like they don't care, but maybe they're just as afraid as you are. Maybe they're scared you won't care about them. Everyone wears a mask at one point or another, but the key to master is dropping your gaurd and that mask as well. If someone wants to know, why not show them? They want it. Show them how you feel in moderation. Whatever you do in your life at some point or another you're going to have to show people who you really are. Try starting now.. there's no better time.... BUT always, always, always keep writing.

Megan

I used to do the same, but now, well, i have changed, and really, i think being free is better. i wouldn't lose the mask entirely though, just let it down a lil every once in a while to let people see the real beauty in you, everyone is beautiful inside, never forget it.

Your mask is as thin as you want
it to be, it is as thick as you want it to
be and it is as visible as you allow
it to be to others, if someone has
seen deep behind your mask
it's because you allowed them to
I wear one myself. I know not what
people think they know about me
all i know is what i tell people to
be true. Thanks for sharing this one

So many people wear masks, but good friends see through the mask. It is wonderful to have friends to see you for who you are and love you just as you are. That is what you call unconditonal love. Why hide? It doesn't help you, it is a cover for something that needs to be revealed. I have a feeling , there is lots of heart and soul behind that mask. Wonderful poem that almost everyone can relate to. angelrae

Marc: Eventually people will see under that mask and you won't have the control like you do now. You will be exposed for the world to see and all the more vulnerable. It only gets worse, so please, don't hide it from everyone. Allow someone to get close to you, otherwise life will remain as harsh as it seems now.

I myself wear a mask....but in a way I WISH for a friend who can see past it and help me. You're friend truly cares and is a good one to have. Let your friend help reveal who you are
