The Hole of Creation

Contributed by spike on Wednesday, 17th November 2004 @ 02:29:01 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

With thanks to A.A. Milne's Spring Morning

Where do they go to, all those souls,
Tunnelling down into deep, deep holes
Once so vibrant in the golden light,
Down, down, down to the darkest night.

What of the lovers, their hearts content,
Or the broken-hearted, passion spent
Where go the feelings, once so strong,
Down into tunnels, deep and long.

Who can tell where all the words went,
Poems and speeches on their long descent
Unravelling, all, on the winds that clear,
Worming deep into the silent ear.

Deep, deep, deep go all these things,
Down into tunnels where the darkness sings
Honeycombed passages black as night,
To await return to the warming light.

The years go by and the world gives birth,
Uncovering treasures from the cool, cool earth
Casting back what it held so long,
Life and love, and the Sirens' song.

This is fabulous!!!! I adore poetry inspired by poetry or by a poet...metapoetry... I seek inspiration there often myself. (I spent some time with Anne Sexton last night and couldn't stop writing!)

This is so clearly linked to Milne's Spring Morning and yet so fabulously unique. Really, a terrific write and a wonderful way to honor another great piece.

Extremely well done!
SNM

Very good poem. You should take 80, or so, of your best - and publish.
