Lord, Take Me Home

Contributed by mysticpoet on Tuesday, 16th November 2004 @ 11:29:23 AM in AEST
Topic: ChristianPoetry

As I wander the streets on this dark and lonely night,
I come across a cottage but there's no one in sight.
Everyone is gone like they've disappeared from this earth.
No record of their death, but there's one of their birth.
The Bible lies open for everyone to see.
But no one is left here, just memories and me.
Where is everyone? Looks like they were just here,
The stove is left on, I shutter with fear.
Suddenly, fire shoots from the sky, cottage bursts into flames.
Memories lie shattered, my hearts filled with shame.
The Bible's on the table, not one page is burned.
Through the ashes and smoke, I see the page turned.
The Good Book tells all, the truth is revealed,
God's taken his people, has my fate been sealed?
Why would He leave me here all alone?
Lord, forgive me, please take me home.
He says, I'm always with you walking at your side.
Spreading my love everywhere, together, you and I.
Soon, Heaven's door will open, then I'll bring you home.
Reunited with your loved ones, you'll never again be alone.

This was so touching, it made me really think about my gratitude for everything. To remember to appreciate and not take for granted all my blessings good, and bad. To have faith I will never again be alone

Excellent. I fear for so many family and friends that they will find themselves alone like this. Scary, but telling.

You know i'm not much of a strong believer at times but looking at this poem reassures me that God is there even when i think he's not. This really makes me stop and think. Great write.
