Behind these fake smiles
That I paste on my quivering lips
I am dead and numb
My body rotting in the sunlight
It's been like this for years
Ever since Depression took over
Now I sleep with it
And lie in its seductive, false warmth
And every waking moment
I bow before it... fearful
I no longer live
Just put forth this weak facade
If I let anyone see behind my walls
They would see me, swollen and bloated
Lips barely moving whispering prayers,
But no longer in the realm of the living
Passed over so many years ago,
But somehow I still fool people
Into thinking life still beats within,
But I know I am dead
Or at least not living
For Depression has taken everything
And I stumble in a mindless non-existence
So I paste on this mask
So you are not tormented by my rotting cadaver

very awesome write.. alot of people hide their sadness behind a mask.. this is a great expression on that .. awesome job i hope you feel better

All poems sound awesome in our heads, until onto paper they go...and you wish you could put it back inside your head...lol dude I am always like that....though now I see the the poems I write unfold like a movie...then I write my horrors...insanity soaks this unstable mind of mine...
Lol enough of me :D Dude this poem rocked, the picture you painted made my jaw drop...and left me feeling astounded and physically numb...you didnt like the poem...but dude I thought this write rocked...so freaky and sad...graphic dark...just like my life...you have such beautiful talent to blow the mind open....leaving it naked and raw...your words tattoo themselves within leaving their mark...and you have captured the true essnce of what poetry is all about.
