The windows are being abused,
By the relentless fall of rain…
Insanely bleak, horridly dark…
Shadows of the past hover over me,
I can never seem to escape them,
No matter how hard I try…
The bed is lonely,
My candle almost deceased of frequent use…
My pen coughs up the last bit of ebony blood it has left,
And finally dies…
Peaceful rest…
The symphony is incomplete,
My tale is halfway told…
So much to say, so much to show…
Vivid images are being painted within this beautiful mind of mine,
The scent of a rose, the caress of a lover, the soft Melodies of my piano…
Surreal, beautiful, flawless…
Yet, the words cannot describe such splendor…
Unsuitable for display…
Only mindless ramblings,
Only deranged expressions of the garrulous flower…
I have been cursed with the dreaded Writer’s Block,
Possessing the splendiferous images,
But, alas, nothing is emitted from my cherished outlet…
The tears from the sky observe intently,
Almost mockingly…
Waiting for the usual praised words of the ’talented’ poet…
Talented, HA!
I’m not gifted, nor am I a poet…
I am just a child,
Unable to create simple expressions,
Unable to weave splendiferous endeavors…
An amateur,
Unworthy of such praise and encouragement,
Given by my higher colleagues…
My sagacious teachers,
Wise, all-knowing Masters/Mistresses of the art of words…
I, the dim-witted, who still must learn these ways…
Recklessly hoping for some inspiration,
Waiting for the gift of profound words…
The world,
Seems to laugh,
As I, the helpless fool, strain my fevered brain for a tale…

Ah... writers block... I know it well. It passes, thankfully. I pretty much take a break from writing or drawing when I get blocked, and usually I'll get inspired after a week or two. |

Wow, this one was really amazing Stephy! I totally understand what it feels like to have writers block, and to have so much to say but nothing to write. But I think it is in those moments, that the best poetry comes out, and you have proven it here. I could totally feel the flow of your poem. I could see your process as the writer, as I was reading it. And it was great because at first you were explaining how you had writers block, but there came a point that really struck me, when you broke through.
The windows are being abused,
By the relentless fall of rain…
Insanely bleak, horridly dark…
This was the beginning of your poem, and you didn't have anything to write about, so you were basically just writing about what was happening in that moment. I've started so many poems myself that way. But the more you write, something begins to happen. I noticed a spark, or a change in your poem at this point:
My pen coughs up the last bit of ebony blood it has left,
And finally dies…
Peaceful rest…
The symphony is incomplete,
My tale is halfway told…
Great lines. "My tale is halfway told" Wow, that one really struck me. It reminds me of something I would write.
Only mindless ramblings,
Only deranged expressions of the garrulous flower…
I have been cursed with the dreaded Writer’s Block,
Mindless ramblings are my favorite poems, because that is when something special is expressed that the writer didn't even try to express. It is creativity coming to life. Also you used really great descriptions in these lines. This is not writers block my friend, it is you growing as a writer. Growth happens when you are stuck, but write anyway.
I'll just select a few more lines, but the rest of your poem is amazing! Every line is great.
Waiting for the usual praised words of the ’talented’ poet…
Talented, HA!
I’m not gifted, nor am I a poet…
I am just a child,
Unable to create simple expressions,
Unable to weave splendiferous endeavors…
Now this I completely understand. I know what it feels like to write something that you feel is terrible. You are a talented writer! You are gifted! And you are a poet! And you are just lying to yourself when you are saying that you are unable to create simple expressions. Look at this poem. Look at that line. That line, did express a simple expression. It expressed that you feel like you cannot express it. But you did. And as always, I love the flow of your words.
Be True,
