Left to ponder my own thoughts
Annihilate one another
Indecision engaged in battle
Reason is once more lost
Did I hear God’s name again?
I watch the river flow
Taking comfort in it being
Nothing more or less than a river
If only I were water
Eating the last crumbs
As if hunger will go away
Never satisfied – it keeps returning
Demanding to be fed again
If I were the river I would flow
Cold and fast from the mountains
To my lover the sea
Tasting the sweet salt of life
My tongue forever satisfied
Hurdling into darkness
Headlights beam invades
Darkness gives up her secrets
Blackened domain of shadows
Nightmare’s greasy realm
Icy grip of terror clamps down
Imitating death
If I were the river I would be silver
And you could not see me
Hissing down my neck your breath
Stings my pale and tender flesh
Blinded by your great eye
Peering from behind
Grinding gears and teeth
Thrashing four wheel drive
If I were the river I would beckon you
Sing a siren song
Then swallow you alive

G'day Merry.
a terrific, brooding contemplation - both within and regarding the exernal elements. A truly compelling and familiar thought pattern, wrapped in your compact wording and rich imagery.
Happy 2011, poet. |
