The Cemetery Visit

Contributed by deadheadpoet on Sunday, 14th November 2004 @ 03:34:11 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Do you ever go to the cemetery for tranquility
and peace of mind?
It's strange there the feelings I fine.

I think of all the people lying there
decayed, dead.
Wondering who they were and the last words
they may have said.

The cedars that grow here so
majestic and tall,
I think of all they've seen.
I stand next to one.
Looking at all the tombstones.
This place really moves me.

In the breeze.....
grass blowing in the wind,
this place becomes my friend.
I feel these people.
I take a step back in time
and see....
the loved ones standing next
to the grave crying.

I come here to visit my loved one,
My Mother,
My friend.
I too stand by her grave and cry--
not for her death-
because now she's free.

I cry for all the suffering she endured.
It should have been me.

Yes I have visited the cemetary countless times. Written poetry there, stared off into nowhere contemplating loss, life, going on, coping etc.

It brought all of those feelings back to me. I think good poetry makes the reader feel and you have accomplished this.

My heart goes out to you regarding the loss of your mother.

I felt so moved by this poem, and totally understand you

Death is something I know I have to do one day, and I have just lost 3 dear loved ones in just 1 year,

"Do you ever go to the cemetery for tranquility
and peace of mind?"

It is a haven of peace and tranquilty to me, some find this strange, but I sit and talk ..

Thankyou so much for sharing this, hope you are happy

Kelly x
