THE FEATHER

As I walk along the gravel-ridden roads a feather lie dormant,
I ponder what life she once had, how she came to be.
Where had her mother gone whose grasp on her failed,
Left to fend for herself, to drift endlessly for all to see.
Could this feather have led a glorious life, soaring through the skies,
The wind beneath, keeping her afloat, living a great life.
With a view that would challenge the eagles, she witnessed,
All of the comings and goings of the ants below so rife.
No one to converse, a statue of air, reaching her dear end,
Not even she could last forever.
As I blind myself with her gaze, how long had she been gone,
Care I not, for she was just a feather.
