Ripe

Topic: NaturePoetry

Nature beckons,
knocks its soft tap upon the door of my soul,
chanting sweet songs into my ear,
relentless,
'till my heart yearns for it like a lost lover.

So I get away, escape,
I find a place - leave the beaten path
where secluded and quiet
I lend myself to Mother Nature.

Past the harsh hum of society,
with eyes raised to the heavens,
and beyond,
my soul is born again.

And with eyes averted,
sun ray faeries creep closer, ever closer,
inching up my legs.
Dry leaves tumble past like timid cats.

And with my back turned,
black bugs land in troops upon my shoulder,
upon my waking self.
Elusive flower pixies flee their homes and bombard me
with scents, like that of an old, familiar doll.

Oh how Nature studies me -
How we question one another.

Here, wind spirits whisper their tales to me,
carry me along green hills
chanting ancient words
and,
under tender caress of warm, admiring sun
I sit,
a brimming cup of conviction.

I read the book of the Earth, as it opens unto me,
And today,
I am ripe with age.

I think by religion you are
referring to Paganism?

It is a really lovely poem,
makes me sad that it was one
of your least read poems.
I hope more will come here
to this wonderful poem
and share your affection
for nature.

I adore this, though I cannot begin to know whether it is because it is so beautiful (it IS beautiful!) or because it seems so.... you. Your voice is crystall clear here... your love of nature, of poetry - so incredibly obvious in this piece. You have put your soul of the page here in more ways than one.

Oh how Nature studies me -
How we question one another.

I love those lines - and how you've set them out from the rest. The entire piece is absolutely lovely. And, of course, the reference to "an old, familiar doll" touches me so. I am so delighted to hear that you still have her --- and --- I promise I'll never put her in the microwave again. *wink*

*big giant hug*
PLEASE keep writing... THIS is really quite something,

I enjoyed reading this very much. Although today Nature is *hammering* on my window (snowstorms) calling me out. :-) I love the way you ended it "I am ripe with age." Wonderful write. Thank you!
