Don't Blame The Kid

Contributed by ALineAboveTheStepBeneath on Tuesday, 9th November 2004 @ 10:03:01 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

People wonder why the world is filled
By a fleet of kids who don't seem to know
Right from wrong
A fleet of kids who haven't ever heard anything
But how stupid they are
For chasing their dreams
And their screamed pleas for guidance
And for understanding
Go ignored
So they go about their adolescent lives
Feeling unwanted
And unwelcome
While the parents wonder
What could have gone so wrong
Maybe if they would
Pull their heads out of their own a--es
They'd see it wasn't the kid at all
It was them that screwed up
But that would be a miracle
And miracles just don't happen
As often as they should
So the supposed adults
Will continue to sit around
And complain about kids in society these days
While their misguided teens
Are out on the streets selling drugs
Or bringing guns to school
Or just sitting in their rooms and crying
Thoughts of suicide filling their minds
As the blood flows
From the self inflicted wounds on their arms
And spatters on the floor
Because their cries for help
Fell upon the ignorant ears
Of adults who took them to be
A childlike plea for attention
Your kids aren't seven anymore
Maybe you should open your eyes

yeah, parts of this certainly hit me close to home.
where you wrote "
Or just sitting in their rooms and crying
Thoughts of suicide filling their minds
As the blood flows
From the self inflicted wounds on their arms
And spatters on the floor
Because their cries for help
Fell upon the ignorant ears
Of adults who took them to be
A childlike plea for attention
Your kids aren't seven anymore
Maybe you should open your eyes"
that was the best part!
i'm a cutter.
it made me feel like finally some one really under stands me.
thank for posting it up here.

I like how you explained how it's parents faults and not the kids...very good poem
You are right parents never really look into a child eyes and see what's really wrong.. always out there to scare us instead of helping us.. Parents should more a like to be a friend instead of an enemy... But that's my point of view i guess...

Once again great poem

It isn't *always*. Sometimes a kid has genetic problems (learning disabilities) made worse by
schools. Mine are both adults now and turned out fine** despite the blame and criticism I got from other people for their "lack of attention".
Spreading blame around instead of doing something to help is what is wrong with the world today, IMO. It just makes more problems.
I did something about it. I homeschooled my son to get him away from the constant criticism from peers and teachers. Sometimes a parent just has to go against what "society" says is the right thing to do in order to make a change. That's harder if the parent has themselves been raised to always play by the rules of society.

PS. My adult kids are great. Both happily married, both achievers, more than most people.

Just a note to all the parents reading this poem...

This is not about you. It is not directed toward all parents... Just the ones who have kids with obvious problems and don't do anything to help them. If this offends you, I'm sorry.

Yeah I'm offended. But not by you personally. Just by all the people who pointed fingers at me and tried to make me believe the problems I had to deal with were my own fault, even while they were making it worse. That's the problem with placing blame.; it doesn't apply to everyone, and sometimes the people doing the blaming are causing it to get worse. In my case, all the pointy fingers made me more depressed than I would have been. Think we should just remove the kids from all the bad parents and let the government raise them like pack animals? Oh wait... we do that already.

Well written Well said your words speak so much truth to them the picture you draw with your word should strike a cord with parents today if only parents would listen to there kid's and hear what thay are tring to say. maybe things would be differnt. And a lot of kids would still be here. I enjoy reading your poem ""GREAT JOB"" ALineAboveTheStepBeneath.
