The day that you said to me
"Listen truly maybe,"
Could have been the greatest day
But, we shall have to see
I remember the trees dead against the wind
Cold, crisp breeze
They threw their leaves at everything
Crumpled, even crinkled if you please
The pavement was even colder
Even as your words began to disperse
As beautiful as the day was
The trees couldn't escape nature's curse
The blue in the sky went on forever
It masked the small here and there
Little wisps of clouds that remained
And the words you gave me and I came to bear
It was the greatest of days
Even with the realization from those fateful words
And as I was stuck in redemption
I smiled at the trees and whistled at the birds
No one smiled back
Not even as the words were said
But I gripped the vision of dead trees
And I shoved the feeling to the back of my head
You were there
Just as you were before
You spoke to me a realization
Whispered in my ear, and I held you in the door
The words were everything and beautiful
Crashing straight with the leaves down on me
I tried so hard to cleanse myself from all those days
And I remembered when you said, "Listen truly maybe."
