Confrontations

Feel your hopes fall away.
Just like the season’s first snowfall?
Feel your happiness drip away.
Like the season’s first sunshine?
Let the sun in and melt your frozen heart,
Thaw the chilled blood within.
Stand alone under a violet sky,
Feel the emptiness cascade into your being.

It fills me, makes me whole.
It drowns you in nothing!
Nothing, yet everything,
All at once.
What a rush!
A rush?
Stupid girl.
What do you know?

I know enough.
Just what I need,
And the things to get me through the day.
You can barely make it through the day!
And yet I do.
You just scrape by.
You aren’t truly happy.

Mayhap…
But I’m learning…
You aren’t truly strong.
But I’m still here.
Hardly.
I’m stronger than I thought.
I’m stronger than you know.
Liar.
I’m stronger than you.
What makes you think that?
I’m strong enough to admit that I am afraid.
I’m not afraid!
Now who is lying?
You may be afraid, but I’m not, and that’s the truth.
The falsest truth I’ve ever heard.
Nay, the falsest truths are the ones you tell yourself.
Such as?
“I’m okay.
Really.”

Really, I am.
You know you aren’t.
I am!
I know you aren’t.
I am!
They know you aren’t.
I am…
Aren’t I?
Why should you believe me?
You tell me the things nobody else will.
You have deemed me a liar.
How do you know that I am telling the truth?

I just have faith.
Faith in what?
In you.
Uncertainty taints your voice.
And fear taints yours.
Unhappiness destroys your heart.
And bitterness destroys yours.
Loneliness decays your soul.
And desperation decays yours.
You and I are alike, you know that?
Of course I do.
I’m not stupid.
I never said that.
You implied it.
I did no such thing,
That was you.
It has always been you.
But you know this, don’t you?

I don’t know what you mean.
You can’t fool me.
You can’t fool yourself.

I’ve not tried to fool myself.
Then, pray tell, what are you doing right now?
I’m not fooling myself!
Of course not.
You aren’t fooling anybody.
Least of all me.
But I don’t count, do I?

What do you mean?
Come on, stupid girl.
You can’t fool yourself.
You can’t fool me.
Why is this?

Because…
Because, you are me.

A write about inner struggles - soliloquy - almost a short screenplay. Interesting. Not bad!
