End War

A mysterious wave of sadness
rushes over me,
images in my mind
of horror and destruction,
young men and women dying,
parents left to grieve their children's deaths,
lovers waiting in loneliness,
friends and family waiting, hoping,
hoping to see the day
when their brave soldiers will return,
but for so many, that day will never come,
death is striking these warriors,
serving their country, doing their job,
but how many more will perish
before this unjustified mission
comes to an end?

My only question is, if we do not stand up for the weaker among us, who will? War is never pretty, or glamourous, or fun, but sometimes it is necessary. How many more would have died in Germany had no one stepped in? Or Russia? Or Bosnia? Or any of a myriad of other regimes that came into being on the bodies of innocents? Just a thought. |

Good poem and a burning question I wish
Bush's administration would consider. Once
again a good, inquisitive poem.
