Somewhere between then and now

I feel across this windswept land,
Lost in this life as a single grain of sand.
Caught in the whirlwind, touching the sun,
With two legs and two feet it's hard not to run.
Clenching my fists and closing my eyes,
Shutting out the faces and unpleasant night skies.
Masking this sandstorm, it's just a phase,
And a time frozen moment is but a gaze.
What ever happened to a simple way of life,
Free of all those faces, all this god damn strife.
When a sunny day was just a day,
And not some memory left locked away.
A ticket in time, a picture to feel,
Rough edges and surface, wounds that won't heal.
What happened to the sunny days and starlit nights?
What happened to the darkness when it pushed away the light?
