one soft august night

Trees with green lanterns
casting light upwards,
transforming knurled bark
into bright jade and emerald.
Bottom lit leaves
fade skyward to darkness,
top heavy trees
glow in the night.
Lovers in sailboats
cuddle to music,
flute solo sonnets
drift on the breeze.
Each light on the water
multiplied by thousands,
each wave a flicker,
bright and then gone.
Soft light on your face,
framed by pillows,
closed eyes smiling
at pleasure’s surprise.
