There's a tree by the sidewalk
And I'm sittin' underneath its shade
Just playin' my miniature fiddle
Tryin' to brighten up this drizzly day
Oh did I say shade
I meant it as cover for the rain
I meant it as cover for the rain
What will I play
What the mousecatcher used to say
"It's so nice to catch mice,
But in the rain it's doubly that nice...twice!"
Or maybe the garagantuan silly salamander song
I could sing about umbrellas on leashes all day long
But I think I'll play the Theme
of the Tree Without Trimmed Limbs
It runs wild and free
By the side of the street
I just hope it doesn't get chopped down
And turned into a lot of album receipts
If its limbs were trimmed
It would be more attractive
But think of all the trimming
That would take and the landscapers
Would have quite a racket
Do you know that there
Was only a 25% chance of rain today?
Well, I made that up
But I didn't make up the rain
So it's not pourin'
And I don't think I'm in a foreign
Country, country
So I think I'll sit myself right
Beside this here tree
For an hour or three
But hey! I ain't playin' for free
Give me what you give me
But remember if you're gettin'
Out of the inclimate weather
You might outlive me
So why don't you throw a few
Sense my way and the tree's
I've got a miniature fiddle
Wanna be a giant star
I'm playin' by the roadside
Hope I don't get run over by a car
