The Promise Ring

Contributed by ShadowsCloud on Tuesday, 19th November 2002 @ 12:30:00 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

I was five when I got my first promise ring
Back then I was so boy crazy
Some said I was too young for such a thing
My young mind was hazy
I can still remember the day
When I got the promise ring
The boy stammered along his way
We was very nervous when he gave me the ring
The ring was so beautiful
With its purple stone shape like a heart
That boy he was so wonderful
My first relationship off to a good start
Now, like me, the promise ring is tarnished
I no longer know that boy
From the ring the tarnish can be polished
But from me the tarnish is not so easy to destroy
Since I was five, my life has chaged so much
No longer am I that innocent little girl
Of bad things I have seen so much
Since I was five, my life has been in a whirl
Since then I've gotten many a promise ring
Even now, I'm just as boy crazy
Back then I was too young for such a thing
Now, my mind is just as hazy

Patience Grasshopper,
God has the right man out there for you. You will know it when it happens. Things change and people change as they grow up, but that doesn't mean we have to live with the tarnish of the past. Nice write!

wow, just great. That inspired me! I also loved the style you used right through the poem. Sweet as a song.

This one reminds me how I never wanted to have to grow up Candice,
Those days of such innocence, how nervous I would get when I liked a girl but was too affraid to talk to her in case she laughed at me and told all her friends what I said! Then they might all laugh at me as well!
Of course this never happened because I didn't give it chance to!
Oh how things have changed so much, NOT!!Hehe!
Great write Candice!

With love
Dean:-)

Dean, even though I am only 20 I still remember never wanting to grow up. It happened so fast. I swear it feels like I was only 16 yesterday. It still amazes me that I am going to be 21 in about 7 months. I just don't know where the time went. I will admit that although I arather mature for my age, there are times like when I am with my bestfriends that I can act just like I did when i was 16. When I was 16 all the way to 18, there was this really cute guy that I like a lot and I got so nervous around him that anything I was close to him something REALLY embarrassing would happen. Like the time he was sitting in the hall way between classes and just as i pasted him I tripped and fell at his feet. Or the time that we pasted eachother in the hall way going oppsite directions and my hair got tangle up in his book bag. That was so embarrassing, that was the time when he finally asked my name, I was almost too embarrassed to speak. There were many more things like that; that happened when I was around him.I a surprised that I made it through those to years of my life with my face not being perminantly red.

Hehehe!!
Sorry Candice, oh that's must've been terrible for you!
I do hope you can find something from these experiences to smile about now though!
There was a girl that used to do these sorts of things around me. But neither of us ever found the courage to say more than two or if lucky three words to each other! If I could turn the clock back...

With love
Dean:-)

Dean, Actually I can laugh about this now, but when it happened I thought that I would just die. That guy and I have had a conversation or two while he was helping me up off the floor or untangling my hair from his book bag, or from his watch. I really hurt because before either of us realized that my hair was caught on his watch he ended up pulling it really bad. But now when my friends and I talk about this we all can get a good laugh out of it. If I could turn the clock back I would have gotten the courage to ask him out, but neither of us can do this.
