The family was all gone,
the only family she knew.
The blaze had engulfed the world,
more importantly
her world.
Alone with her thoughts,
driving fast,
too fast for the flames to reach her
(Where was she to go?)
Both ends of the world
that were once full of
green land
blue oceans and skies
and billowing white clouds
were now blanketed in a
smoldering black shroud.
White clouds became nothing more than smoke.
But to her,
she knew that was not smoke
but the sad remains of
an over populated world.
The sickening stench of burnt flesh.
The hands of time melted away,
like Dali's "soft watch",
not even time remains
when the sky's gone black.
Racing to the top of a hill,
for she believed height would be
her saving Grace,
she saw what was left
as Destruction took the breath
from her lungs
and Devistation placed
a vice grip to her heart.
The ability breath was gone,
like the land that lay before her.
The fight was over,
there was nothing more to gain.
The last world war was fought
and lost.
With no future ahead of her,
she could only face her past,
praying that the afterlife
would not parallel her reality.
She sat on the last remaining tree stump,
slowly turned around
as the orange glow
(her favorite color)
warmly laid her
to sleep.

This is fabulous, Nardo! I'm amazed at how well you were able to describe a dream that you did not have yourself.
not even time remains
when the sky's gone black.
These particular lines struck me, held me. The entire piece is thoughtprovoking. Thanks for sharing it.
And... Welcome to YPDC! I'm looking forward to reading more from you!
