The Man in the Moon

Faithfully, the man arrives
Looking for a friend.
Every night he climbs the sky,
As our day begins to end.
His partner tells him stories
Of children playing with delight,
But nothing scares them more
Than the monsters in the night.
Slowly he ascends the throne
As king of the lonely skies.
I wonder if, in the midnight hour,
The night watchman ever cries.
But as darkness slays the light
His grin beams for miles;
For surely he who makes no friends
Is the man who never smiles.
