Facing My Obituary

Contributed by merry on Monday, 1st November 2004 @ 03:51:38 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I wrote my own obituary
An experiment in good-bye
Who was I and what did I do
Who cares when at last I die?
I was born and raised it says
Then goes on to state
My many accomplishments in life
The list is long I must admit
I worked more than one might think
To make a living and pay my way
And then there are the so-called hobbies
The things I truly loved
Expressing the real me
No word of love or romance here
No taint of scandal uttered
Just a woman with a family
Who lived her life quite dully
Desperate sighs were never heard
Nor were the tears all counted
With every tick of the clock I was robbed
Of what I never knew
I thought it might be happiness
Perhaps true love was out there waiting
Feeling desperate too
Too late now for I am dead
My time at last run out
I kept on saying someday….
But someday never comes

Do you still dream of someday? Someone asked me that a year ago, and I said that I did. That is a fantasy I have released. I have found that someday rules with an iron grip making every tomorrow a deadend in a perplexing and mournful maze. Someday is here and now. I have found it, and I am grateful to have done so. I'm not lecturing you here, just rambling. This is what your poems do to me. They make me think out loud in these comments. They affect me tremendously...which is what the very best poetry should do.

Someday comes only after yesterday, in hindsight. Sometimes, I think someday I'll forget about some days as described in your fictitious obituary and start living for the today, yesterday.

Made me think on thinking. Thankyou.

This really makes me think Gaille. I guess mine would say " I tried to be all that I could, but ended up being less than I had hoped."
VERY well done
