I once took a ride on a Waltzer
Sitting next to beautiful girl
As we spun around
I heard not the sound
That was marking the end of my world.
As the music played on
Was it Radio 1?
Her telephone started to ring.
I thought "what the heck"
It was only a text
I knew not the bad news it would bring.
As we left the ride
Then she started to hide,
To read in a corner and grin
I knew then and there
I would never win her
Once she had a message from him!
The rain it poured down
As we walked around
Enjoying the fun of the fair
I knew it looked grim
Now that she wanted him
If she knew how much I wanted her!
My feelings inside
I just could not hide
Something just had to be said
So as people had fun
Then I really had none
As my heart filled with fear and dread.
I told her I loved her
I told her I'd stay
Do anything for her I can
But she looked at me
And as sweet as could be
She said she had some other man
So there in the rain
I just hid all the pain
And said I was happy for her.
But deep in my heart
I was falling apart
For the girl I had met at the fair.
