An Honourable War?

It’s far easier to pretend than to look at the facts
In retrospect we see only our 'glorious' acts
And it’s easy to ignore what we have destroyed
Asserting even more should’ve been deployed
We conveniently look only one biased way
Not at blasted villages we crushed each day
Not thinking of the thousands of lives we ended
Just reassert what can’t be defended
Retrospect is a wonderful thing, convenient too
Perfect rear-view mirror on what was right to do
Was it right to napalm and burn them all?
Was it right at Mai Lai as the children fall?
Was it right to slaughter then crow and shout?
Was it good to prop up corruption in the South?
Was it REALLY and TRULY an honourable war?
Or were we defeated at our political core?
Politicians failed to bring the troops back
And took the easier path and increased attack
And in the end there were fifty thousand dead
And the whole Far East did failed to turn red
All those illusory fears did NOT come to pass
Though hawks brayed these lies like demented ass
These ugly men who caused the troops death
Shouting their lies with every breath
Now Vietnam is at peace, is prosperous and proud
Free of the corruption of the political South
Just as Cuba had no need of the mob
But Republicans at times have a vicious mouth
From a gut reaction they create such crap
Then when it goes wrong they escape the rap
Iraq is just another Republican war
They're inventing excuses on what it’s for
All those lies, all those dirty vicious lies
As the tears roll down and your brother dies
Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld too
Making mistakes that may kill YOU
Asserting and reasserting convenient lies
These are the men we should despise
No planning - nothing real to create any peace
They created a war that will NEVER cease
Chaos and Death, that’s what they made
In Nam and Iraq, an endless parade
Political egos that truly never care
Your bravery a tool as they callously stare
Safe and comfortable in offices back home
THEIR sons or daughters will NEVER come
Where you are fighting day on day
At home they are and at home they stay
These are the criminals who send you to die
In Nam and Iraq, hear the cry
Political careers soon made or lost
But it’s YOU not THEM who will pay the cost

| I disagree with the idea of "Nation building" but, I must admit that if we had not contained communism in Korea, and "Nam -Communism in Russia may not have collapsed. And also, the Christian world must confront the evil of Islam sooner or later, and later may be too late. Anyway, a good rhyme, and interesting read. God bless you. |

| The war in Irak is a perfect illustration of the war described in George Orwell's '1984', a must read. This war is not about freedom or democracy, it is solely about the survival of the upper class. By destroying goods andmoney by constantly having futile wars, the upper class prevent the middle class from gaining too much wealth and therefore too much power. The war on Irak is not an attack on terrorism, it is an attack on social classes in the US and abroad. The casualties lay numerous and the victores are but a few high ranking officails that can now buy five sports cars from the death of thousands of innocent people. |

Steel, remember that the US is still some semblance of a democracy, and it's possible we can bring some of this madness to a halt.
But you once again speak for what I fear is a "silenced majority" in the US. |

| We are not a Christian World in the United States and Islam is a practice of peace. I agree with this poem 100% I cannot believe how conservative our country has turned. And when in the hell did liberal become a bad word?! I'm sorry, I'm ranting, but this poem got me all riled up |
